When bad weather strikes, it is best to be prepared, but have you ever considered what you can do to protect your well from severe weather? By taking a few simple steps, you can have peace of mind that your well will remain safe during storms.
Step 1: Install a lightning protection system.
A lightning protection system consists of lightning rods, conductors, and grounding equipment. It helps to divert the lightning strike away from your well and into the ground safely. Consult with a professional electrician or lightning protection specialist to install a proper lightning protection system.
Step 2: Secure the well cap.
Make sure the well cap is tightly sealed to prevent rainwater from entering the well. This will help to minimize the risk of contamination during severe weather events.

Step 3: Maintain proper drainage.
Ensure that the area around your well is properly graded to allow for proper drainage. This will help prevent water from pooling around the well during heavy rainfall, reducing the risk of flooding and potential damage to the well system.
Step 4: Consider a backup power source.
In the event of a power outage during severe weather, having a backup power source such as a generator can help ensure that your well pump continues to function. This will allow you to have access to water even during power disruptions.
