It is recommended to have a minimum of liability insurance for your well. This can help protect you financially in case of any accidents or damages related to your well. Talk with an insurance professional or relevant authority for specific and up-to-date information regarding insurance for wells. It is important to review your insurance policy and discuss it with your insurance agent to ensure that your well is adequately covered.

Is my well that was damaged in a natural disaster covered by my insurance?

You will need to verify with your insurance agent that you are covered in case of natural disasters that could affect your location. Insurance can help protect you financially in the event of damage or loss to your well. Be sure to talk to your agent before any disaster strikes, because if you do not have a policy in place at the time of the event, you will not be covered.

What can I do if my insurance does not cover my well?

If your current insurance does not provide coverage for your well, talk to your insurance agent to see if you can add coverage to your policy. If your insurance company does not offer insurance that covers your well, ask your family, friends, and neighbors for suggestions. Contact other companies in your area to see if any of them do offer coverage for wells and compare the costs.

If your well is fairly new, some of the parts may come with some sort of warranty that may last a few years. Check with your well driller or refer to documentation you received when it was installed for more information.

Should my driller have insurance?

A reputable well drilling company will have adequate insurance. When choosing a driller, always ask them about their insurance coverage and any additional insurance requirements. When installing or repairing your well, it is crucial to have a contract with your well drilling company that includes provisions for liability insurance. This ensures that you are covered in case of any issues during the drilling process.

If you are unsure, ask the driller for a certificate of insurance and have your insurance agent review it to ensure that the policy is sufficient.

Besides my insurance agent, who else can provide information on insurance for a water well?

For more information, it is advisable to contact your state’s regulatory agency or department responsible for well construction for recommendations and information on insurance requirements. They can provide guidance on the specific insurance policies and coverage that may be necessary for your well.
